Leigh Rainford - Founder of the Pod
Breastfeeding Peer Supporter - in training
Hello and congratulations on your pregnancy!
I'm Leigh Rainford, the founder of The Family Pod. I'm a mum of two gorgeous children, Hypnobirthing Instructor and Breastfeeding Peer Supporter-in-training.
When I fell pregnant with my first child, I was so excited to give birth. My husband and I had gone to antenatal classes that focused on natural, vaginal birth and I planned a water birth in hospital.
Unfortunately things didn't go the way I had planned, and 10 days after my Expected Due Date I ended up having a long and protracted labour culminating in an assisted delivery where I felt completely out of control - not the birth I had hoped for myself and my daughter, and I carried the trauma of that experience round with me for a long time.
When I discovered I was pregnant with my son, I was determined that my birth was going to be different, and so I started practicing hypnobirthing techniques when I was around 30 weeks pregnant in preparation for a different birth experience. I went into hospital at 8cm dilated, calm and relaxed! The midwife who helped me to deliver my baby even joked that she couldn't believe that I was 8cm dilated because I was still happy and smiling!
Because of this preparation and practice, I achieved a wonderfully healing birth with my son and came out of that experience with a drive to help other women to birth their babies in a calm and relaxed way. I chose to teach The Wise Hippo Birthing Programme because not only does it contain self-hypnosis techniques, it empowers you to remain in control of your birthing experience, no matter what curve balls are thrown at you, and enables you to have the Right Birth on the Day.
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you on a course soon!
